Historia

The history of DSI Underground dates back to 1865 - the foundation of the Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG based in Karlsruhe, Germany.
In the 1970s, the first DSI companies were founded to distribute the know-how of Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG internationally. In 2000, the DSI network consisted of more than 50 subsidiaries, licensees and agents.

2000

DSI tunneling products secure various tunnels for ICE high speed railway, Germany.

DSI acquires ANI Strata Products and establishes a new business in the underground mining industry as well as in Australia
DSI opens new facility for mining products in Salt Lake City / USA and in Johannesburg / South Africa
DSI's global network consists of more than 75 subsidiaries, licensees and agents
DSI strengthens its mining business by acquiring Celtite Pty Ltd (Celtite), Australia
DSI acquires Underground companies in North America
DSI acquires Stewart Mining in Canada. This acquisition establishes DSI as the market leader for mining products in Canada
The European private equity firm Industry Kapital acquires DSI
DSI acquires the leading supplier of mining products Mexicana de Anclas Mineras in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico
DSI strengthens its tunneling division by acquiring ALWAG Tunnelausbau Ges.m.b.H. in Pasching, Austria
DSI further strengthens its tunneling and mining activities in North America by acquiring the shares of American Commercial Incorporated (ACI), Bristol, VA, USA
DSI USA acquires Fasloc, Inc., a premier producer of Resin Cartridges for mining and tunneling in the USA
DSI expands its mining activities in South America by acquiring Soprofint SA, headquartered in Santiago, Chile
DSI is sold by Industri Kapital to CVC Capital Partners. CVC Capital Partners is a leading international private equity company with a total of 11.6 billion Euros in equity capital
The acquisition of MET-TECH Industries Ltd., USA extends DSI's market leadership in the supply of mining products in North America
2008

DSI supplies special products for Australia's longest road tunnel in Brisbane, Australia. For the construction of the 5,000m long double tunnel, DSI supplies the AT-76 injection system used for the first time in Australia in addition to many other products and systems. The injection system protects the TBM in advance from water damage and ensuing failure

DSI acquires Fosminas Ancoragens Ltda., a leading producer of mining products in Brazil
DSI acquires business from AGRHIMERC S.A.C., Peru and establishes DSI Peru S.A.C.

The acquisition of DSI by Triton is closed on June, 15th, 2011. Triton, a highly respected European private equity house, is now the owner of DSI

2011

DSI South Africa strengthens Export Activities in Botswana and Zimbabwe. DSI is one of the largest and leading producers of products and systems for mining in South Africa. DSI plans to strategically expand its export activities into the important neighboring countries such as Botswana and Zimbabwe. Clients include BHB Billiton, Xstrata, Exxaro, De Beers, Anglo American Thermal Coal, Anglo American Platinum, Bombela Construction, Sasol, CMI Joint Venture and a large number of small and medium sized mining operations

February 2012

DSI acquires a majority stake in UK specialist mining contractor Drill Tek Injection Systems Ltd. Drill Tek is a mining services contractor offering both contracting services such as roof bolt installation and resin injection as well as product supply for roof support and reinforcement in underground mines. Additionally, the UK based company provides specialist services for tunneling and civil infrastructure construction. The acquisition represents a strategic investment for the future of DSI’s business and is the first acquisition undertaken since Triton Partners acquired DSI in June 2011.

DSI acquires Schaum-Chemie Mikołów Sp. z o.o. The company acts as DSI Schaum Chemie on the market.
  • Acquisition of 100% of JENNMAR Canada strengthens DSI’s mining capabilities in Canada
  • Acquisition of 49% in J-LOK® Resins allows DSI to have own manufacturing of resin capsules in Australia
  • Establishment of a bolt and resin joint venture with JENNMAR in South Africa

PT DSI Underground Indonesia opens new Manufacturing Facility for Mining Products in Indonesia. The new, 3,000m2 manufacturing facility in Gresik, Surabaya, East Java primarily produces friction bolts for mining. 

August 2015
Acquisition of the Intellectual Property and manufacturing assets for the “OneStep“ mining bolt from Hilti AG. OneStep is a self-drilling mining bolt which combines the drill head, drill steel, bolt and adhesive resin in a single unit.
Acquisition of the Jennmar Mining businesses outside the US, sale of the US Mining business to Jennmar. The acquisition allows DSI’s customers to profit from the most comprehensive portfolio in ground support products.
February 2016

Reorganization of the DSI Group. Effective March 2016, DSI Construction and DSI Underground operate as two separate divisions. DSI Construction continues to trade under “DSI” with the traditional company logo. DSI Underground adopts a new logo that goes into effect immediately.

July 2016
DSI Underground and Northern Mining Products (NMP) Sweden, sign an exclusive agreement to manufacture and sell the Dynamic OMEGA-BOLT®. The innovative rock bolt is based on the well-known expandable OMEGA-BOLT® friction bolt and is equipped with an internal additional steel element having a “C” profile that can absorb a significant amount of elastic energy.
Establishment of the new company DSI Underground Mongolia LLC in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Change of name of the US American DSI Underground unit located in Louisville, KY, USA to DSI Tunneling LLC. All sales activities in Tunneling North America are concentrated at this location.
Establishment of DSI Underground Nordic AB in Skellefteå, Sweden. The new logistics center can efficiently supply some of the largest underground metal mines in Europe with high quality ground support products on short notice.
December 2017
Acquisition of Heintzmann Australia Pty Ltd in Australia. The acquisition enables DSI Underground to enter the standing support market including steel props or roadway repair.
March 2018
DSI Underground acquires Mining World S.A. in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The company operates as DSI Underground S.A., offering high quality and innovative solutions that make the underground industry safer and more efficient.
April 2018
DSI Underground Australia and Fero Group Pty Ltd sign an agreement under which DSI Underground Australia acquires 100 per cent of Fero. The acquisition completes DSI Underground’s product offer in galvanizing and mesh manufacturing. The completion of the acquisition is conditional on approval from the Australian anti-trust authority, the ACCC.

Inauguration of the global Center of Competence for chemical products and of a new production facility for injection chemicals in Mikolow, Poland.

Otwarcie nowego zakładu produkcyjnego w Buenos Aires w Argentynie. Zakład ma ponad 2.000 metrów kwadratowych i generuje nowe miejsca pracy poprzez konsolidację produkcji lokalnej i szybkie wsparcie klientów za pomocą produktów wysokiej jakości.

Kwiecień 2019

W kwietniu 2019 roku w Gresik Surabaya pomyślnie rozpoczęto produkcję siatki ocynkowanej dla przemysłu wydobywczego. Jest to ważny kamień milowy w rozwoju lokalnej produkcji w Indonezji.

October 2019

In October 2019 DSI Underground acquired Mansour Mining Technologies Inc. The acquisition complements DSI Underground's product portfolio in Canada and also strengthens the customer service network and R&D resources.

Grudzień 2019

Pierwsza dostawa i montaż chemicznych produktów wtryskowych w Meksyku (tunel Toluca de Valle de Mexico). Zespół DSI Underground wsparł klienta w zakresie nadzoru, instalacji i know-how.

April 2020

Focus on local presence. With 20+ production sites worldwide, the company is close to where the customers need us – even in the most remote areas.

DSI is able to meet all delivery dates for customers despite the COVID pandemic.

May 2020

Sustainable expansion of the production capabilities in Stalowa Wola, Poland to ensure a reliable just-in-time delivery for customers in Europe.

September 2020

Foundation of the joint venture DSI Underground Ventilation in Chile consisting of the partners DSI Underground and ABC Ventilation Canada. The new company produces and supplies complete ventilation systems for mining and tunneling in Latin America.

October 2020

DSI Underground Canada installed a new production line for the FASLOC® Resin capsules in Sudbury, ON, Canada and invested in a new roll former to produce friction bolts in Sturgeon Falls, ON, Canada. DSI continue to meet the customers' needs, bring talent together and supports local investment.

December 2020

Triton announces Sandvik Group, a Sweden-based public listed company, will be taking over DSI Underground. Sandvik is a high-tech and global engineering group with over 37,000 employees and is present in 160 countries. With this acquisition, Sandvik adds 20+ local production facilities and sales points globally and will be able to offer the industry’s widest range of mining products and solutions.

February 2021

DSI Underground completed the acquisition of the training and virtual reality specialist Edvirt, headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. The new set-up offers an unmatched virtual training system, enhancing safety and productivity across the underground development cycle.

April 2021

Significant investments to upgrade the production of DSI Hollow Bar Systems in Austria. The investment in a new 1,600kW transformer, state-of-the-art automated bundling system and other products help contribute to reducing our environmental impact.

May 2021

DSI Underground installed two new automated weld cells and a quality control testing station to produce friction bolts at Val d’Or, Québec, Canada. This significant investment enables us to produce an additional one million friction bolts per year in Val d'Or to meet the increasing demand of our customers.

July 2021

Sandvik completes the acquisition of DSI Underground. DSI will be included in the Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions new Ground Support Division as DSI Underground – a Sandvik Company. Customers will continue to receive the high-quality products and services they came to know from DSI, with this combination strengthening the offerings for our clients.
